What is Pilates for Golf?
- Pilates -- first appeared almost 100 hundred years ago
for professional athletes.
- Pilates exercise system focuses on improving flexibility
and strength for the total body while enhancing posture,
balance, and coordination.
- It is particularly effective for golfers developing
core strength through out the body. By conditioning the
core muscles at every joint stability, flexibility, and
smooth continuous motions gives golf swings, more accuracy,
power and speed.
- Pilates enhances symmetry of the muscles. Avoiding injuries.
- Pilates is a lifelong exercise program bringing the
mind to focus, improving posture, programming movement
from the ground up and from the center of the body outward.
- Professional golfers have gravitated to Pilates due
to the fact that Pilates focuses on some of the same areas
needed to become a better golfer. Mind Focus, Flexibility,
Balance, Muscle Symmetry, Strong Core Muscles, Fluid Motion

Stories
-
Charlene Jetter 2/08
Charlene came to me with obvious prior Pilates training.
She knew the moves but the specific Pilates training
she needed to correct posture alignment while moving
had not been addressed. Once she got better postural
alignment and correct movement patterns her success
was apparent in video analysis of her swing. Charlene
graciously shared her before and after videos with
me. With your added specific golf expertise Charlene
left Maui last season feeling good with some of her
greatest golf scores.

Jan Tompkins 11/07 – 5/08
Jan came to me with extreme hip pain and shoulder
discomfort. She had considered hip replacement and
had stopped playing her beloved sport of golf. The
main focus our first season together was correcting
movement patterns and strengthening weak core muscles
at the hip and shoulder joints. This relieved her
hip and shoulder pain so she could return to her golf
game. We accomplished our goal so she could golf pain
free. She returned the next season still playing golf
with no pain but wanting to play better. We worked
on the correct firing of muscles needed for golf.
The rest is history. Spring of 2008 Jan left Maui
knowing she had won the Wailea Wahines low net Club
Championship.
- William “Bill” Klapp
Bill came to me concerned about his hip stabilization.
I suggested to Bill to take my Friday 5pm Golf Pilates
Group class. After taking five group classes specifically
designed to use movements during golf, Bill’s next golf
score was 82. This beat his previous best by nine strokes.
He is still improving his accuracy and lowering his
index while taking Golf Pilates Group classes once a
week.
